These terms govern your use of AloeNotch (“the app”) and this website, provided by Kade’s Lab (“we”, “us”). By downloading or using the app, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.
License
AloeNotch is free to download and use for personal, non-commercial purposes. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and run the app on Macs you own or control. You may not sell, rent, or redistribute the app as your own, or remove its notices.
Provided “as is”
The app is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every Mac or macOS version.
System integration and Apple
AloeNotch is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Apple Inc. “Mac”, “macOS”, and related marks are trademarks of Apple.
To display now-playing information on current macOS versions, the app relies on the open-source mediaremote-adapter, which interacts with system media components. Because this depends on system behavior that Apple may change, this feature — like others that depend on macOS — may stop working or behave differently after an operating system update. The app is distributed outside the Mac App Store and is not reviewed or notarized by Apple as an App Store product.
Your responsibilities
- Use the app in compliance with applicable laws and with Apple’s software terms for your Mac.
- Grant only the permissions you’re comfortable with; features you don’t enable won’t run.
- Keep backups of your files. The shelf holds temporary references to files you drag in; it is not storage or a backup.
Third-party services and software
The optional weather feature retrieves data from Open-Meteo, which has its own terms. The app bundles open-source components, including mediaremote-adapter (BSD 3-Clause license). Your use of those components is subject to their respective licenses.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kade’s Lab will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the app or website. Because the app is provided free of charge, our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it — which is zero.
Changes
We may update the app and these terms from time to time. Changes take effect when posted here, with an updated date above. Continuing to use the app after changes means you accept the revised terms.
Termination
You may stop using the app and delete it at any time. We may discontinue the app or this website at any time.
